Besiktas were without their starting central defensive duo, but they managed to edge out a rather impressive 2-1 victory at Gaziantepspor. The home side played a decent passing game that truly did threaten the visitors, but the final ball was never going to be there as they had trouble finding the strikers on enough occasions. In fact, their only goal arrived on a free kick that could have been cleared away by a defender or even caught by the keeper.

Luckily for them, the ball found its way into the back of the net.

Besiktas relied heavily on the skills of Oguzhan Ozyakup and Gokhan Tore, who dazzled everyone with some ridiculous footwork and used it to notch an assist to Olcay Sahan on the opening goal. He could have had a goal or two of his own, but fortunes did not sway towards him.

The team is playing good soccer, but they need to tighten up on the defensive end if they are to play their style of offensive soccer comfortably. Being prone to counters is never a good thing as many teams have proven this. Therefore, Besiktas need to learn the same lesson.

The Black Eagles are good enough to win the Super League, but Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are slightly better when it comes to playing on a consistent level. These teams have ruled this league for the past several years and in order for Besiktas to compete with them, they have to find the perfect blend of players, coaching and focus.

Winning the title this year is unlikely, but the next couple of seasons will show their true colors when it comes to the highest stage.
