With the season coming toward its final months and form becoming clear, will anyone stop Liverpool‘s Luis Suarez in the race for the Premier League Top Scorer’s Golden Boot Award?
The Liverpool striker may have not found the net against Arsenal on Saturday despite his side winning 5-1, but on the majority of occasions this year, the Uruguayan has scored. At the time of this writing, he has a 23-goal tally in the EPL.
Having received a 10-game ban toward the end of last season, 23 is more than impressive considering that ban overran to the start of this campaign.
With Liverpool in fine scoring form, the only question is surely can Suarez keep it up? I’m not quite sure the frequency of Suarez finding the net will continue until May. Tiredness will surely become a factor, but also there is a strong chance Liverpool will go through a sticky period at some point.
It will take someone to catch up, though, and Manchester City‘s Sergio Aguero and Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge are the next best in the League’s leading scorers for 2013-14 so far. They both have 15; Aguero is out with injury currently and with Champions League fixtures still ahead, there is a chance he will be rested or at least not feature for each and every 90 minutes.
That suggests Suarez has little competition for the rather secondary of EPL awards. Sturridge may well score a fair few more, but it won’t surely be anything to rival his team mate.
Others that are likely to add more to their totals are the likes of Eden Hazard, Robin Van Persie and Jay Rodriguez. But again, it will take a minor miracle to get anywhere near Suarez.
The truth is Suarez is set to be this year’s Premier League top goal scorer. The only thing surely stopping him is injury, or suspension.
