Galatasaray hosted Besiktas in the second and final derby match between the two Istanbul clubs of the season in a match where both sides could have won, but only one grabbed all three points.

Either team’s style was at display with the visitor’s having the more exciting one as the quick and fluent passing allowed them to create space and go on decent runs. They were unable to score, but they did cause Galatasaray problems at times. In fact, their right winger, Gokhan Tore, had to be double or even tripled on coverage due to his unbelievable speed, moves and strength allowing him to smoothly move around the field.

The home side was led by an unexpected source in Veysel Sari, a man who normally plays at right back but settled as a right midfielder in a 3-5-2 formation. He was so influential that he bravely darted up the flank consistently and even earned the penalty kick that captain Selcuk Inan scored to decide the game.

The shock factor of the match was Dany Nounkeu, the center back who is out on loan at Besiktas from Galatasaray. He committed the foul on Sari inside his own area to give away the spot kick. Some could say that he did it on purpose, but he clearly would not want to do that. Regardless, he was the one that committed the foul and the Black Eagle fans may never forgive him for it.

With that victory under their belt, Galatasaray now regain second place ahead of Besiktas by one point, who are now solely in third. If Fenerbahce drop all three points at Elazigspor on Monday, the point deficit will remain at three, something they could finally delete once they meet at Turk Telekom Arena later on this season.
