Week 8 of the Liga MX Clausura 2014 season was one where a number of players could lay claim to being named player of the week. There were a number of games where teams produced impressive wins over their opponents. In the match between Club America and Pumas UNAM, there are two players on Pumas who stood out.
But while Daniel Luduena and Alejandro Palacios both had fine performances this weekend, the fact that they are teammates opens the door for another candidate to take the honors as player of the week. That would be attacking midfielder Isaac Brizuela, the long goal scorer in Sunday’s Toluca–Chivas game which Toluca ended up winning 1-0.
Brizuela was a constant pain and menace to the Chivas defense. He was either at the center of most of Toluca’s scoring chances or he was the one shooting at the goal. Not only did Brizuela’s goal give Toluca a much deserved win, but it also stamped gave him a performance worthy of being named player of the week.
Brizuela has gone from promising young prospect to a player who has earned a chance with the Mexican National Team with potential starting spot in the World Cup this summer, and his play against Chivas highlighted why this is the case.
