This weekend will bring us yet another intriguing round of La Liga matches as some teams will look to continue their winnings ways while others will look to bounce back from surprising defeats. Today, we will be looking at the top three matches scheduled that can make or break the stride of the teams being mentioned. Of course, the top three teams in the league — Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid — are on the books.

First, we have Sevilla hosting Real Sociedad, the team who just stunned reigning champions Barcelona by the score of 3-1 at home last week. One of the stars of that game, Antoine Griezmann, capped an impressive game with a sweetly taken goal, proving once again why he is a menace to defenses around the league.

Sevilla is a team that managed to draw Barcelona on the road, but were crushed at home 4-1 by the Catalan giants. In addition, they lost at Rel Madrid earlier in the season in a game where they decided not to defend, falling 7-3. Therefore, knowing what Sociedad are capable of, they have to defend just as much as attack and hope that Ivan Rakitic can lead the team in the final third.

Prediction: Sevilla 2, Real Sociedad 1

The visitors will be riding high on confidence from last week, but they will forget to show their hosts the respect they deserve, thus losing in a game which they could have won.

Barcelona-Almeria takes the second best match as the hosts will look to bounce back from their shocking 3-1 loss in Sociedad. That was a game where they seemed to take off as their passing, running and connecting with one another all seemed to be absent. At home however, they are much better as they feed off of the fans’ energy.

The home side will be relying on everyone — the defense, midfield and strike line led by none other than Leo Messi and Brazilian starlet Neymar. If those guys score a goal each, they will win the game easily. The visitors have one star in Suso, the winger who is on loan from Liverpool. If he gets going and his teammates manage to play with the same confidence, they can do some damage at the Camp Nou, but not enough for the three points.

Prediction: Barcelona 4, Almeria 1

The hosts will dominate then take their foot off the pedal which will enable their opponents to bag something they can brag about.

The game of the week by a wide margin is none other than the Madrid derby, Atletico Madrid-Real Madrid. When these two sides meet, the encounters are always physical, exciting and truly entertaining to watch. This match is expected to be no different.

Atletico were blanked 3-0 at Osasuna last week, which means that their concentration level will be at an all-time high. They defeated Real 1-0 on the road the first time around, but lost twice in the Copa Del Rey semifinals by an aggregate score of 5-0. Sunday’s game will be the last time they meet in domestic competition this season.

Real Madrid won 3-0 over Elche at the weekend and just demolished Schalke in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16, 6-1. Therefore, they are riding high on confidence and will show absolutely no fear.

Prediction: Atletico Madrid 1, Real Madrid 2

The hosts will create chances, but the visitors will create more. In addition, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale will have a better game than Diego Costa as they will see more of the ball, help out their midfield and be able to feed off of one another a lot more.

Enjoy the games this weekend and stay tuned for next weekend’s previews.
