It’s no secret that Los Angeles Galaxy are one of the best teams in the MLS and they have lofty expectations for this upcoming 2014 MLS season.

The team coached by Bruce Arena has key players all over the pitch and they have enough talent to match up with any other squad in the league. They are also one of the main candidates to win another title and they appear to be a lock to make another deep playoff run.

In order for that to happen, however, they will need to be at their best from start to finish.

The Galaxy has had plenty of important players across their history – most notably David Beckham in recent years – and this season things won’t be different. Several players will be called upon to deliver but some carry heavier bags than others based on their experience, quality or even the possibility to have a breakout year.

Whether is in the defense, the midfield or the attack – arguably the best area of the team thanks to players like Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane – the LA franchise needs to have a strong effort from their star players. Five of them appear to be the most important looking at a possible MLS Cup run and they will have a huge responsibility to perform.

Some are veterans, others are newcomers that have a lot of talent and there is also the huge pressure on their forward duo, arguably the best in the MLS.

These five players mentioned need to perform according to the expectations if the Galaxy wants to have any sort of chance to make another run at the title. Read on to find out who they are.

The Brazilian midfielder is the one in charge of managing the tempo of the team on both sides of the ball and his play is very important as he’s the one that allows the other stars -- like Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan -- to shine brightly.

The USMNT defender is one of the defenders with most potential in the MLS and this might be the year where he takes a definitive jump in the quality his performances. He's secure both through the air and with the ball in his feet and he's the one that anchors the defensive line of the team.

The Irish international is still a top-class player and he has shown it with the Galaxy repeatedly. This year things should be no different and the former Premier League standout has enough quality to command LA’s attack in a season where the team will look to clinch another MLS Cup title.

The Swedish winger doesn’t arrive to the MLS with a great track record behind him but no one can be confused by that. The former AIK star is talented enough to quickly make himself a name in the MLS and he will easily become one of LA’s top performers with only a few games under his belt.

The USMNT star is not only the best player in the team, he’s also one of the best players in the MLS. As such, Donovan will be called upon to lead the Galaxy to another MLS Cup title run and he will be ready to face the challenge. He’s the leader of the team and he will show it from the start of the season, becoming the leader and the most important player of the franchise in 2014.
