He will never be remembered as a memorable player for the Italian national team, but one can’t doubt Antonio Di Natale‘s relevance in the history of Italian soccer of the last 15 years. He has been one of the purest representations of talent of Serie A ever since he debuted in the league with Empoli in 2002.

Today, the 36-year-old gave his team Udinese a very important victory over AC Milan by scoring the only goal of the match halfway into the second half. Thanks to this victory, the Bianconeri have now reached 31 points the standings, 10 more than the relegation zone.

Even more, with today’s goal, Di Natale officially became the ninth-best scorer in Serie A history with 185 in 382 games. He overcame the legendary figure of Gabriel Omar Batistuta, who scored 184 goals in 318 matches. His next victims, are Alessandro Del Piero and Giuseppe Signori, who are only three goals away from Udinese’s captain.

The following is the list of the top 10 goal scorers in Serie A history. Only two, Francesco Totti and Di Natale himself, are still active. In the list, there is a very surprising presence of two Swedish players whose names are not Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Alberto Gilardino, currently 14th in the list, has 170 goals and could potentially enter the top-10 in the the future.

1. Silvio Piola – 274
2. Francesco Totti – 232
3. Gunnar Nordahl – 225
4. Giuseppe Meazza – 216
5. Jose Altafini – 216
6. Roberto Baggio – 205
7. Kurt Hamrin – 190
8. Giuseppe Signori – 188
9. Alessandro Del Piero – 188
10. Antonio Di Natale – 185
