La Liga: Real Madrid Too Strong for Malaga
Club Real Madrid once again attacked on all cylinders in a La Liga game away to Malaga. Although only one goal was scored, the visitors could have truly done more damage to the hosts.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored the game’s only goal as he received a pass from Gareth Bale before cutting by three defenders to use one as a shield to hammer the ball home past Willy Caballero. The Portuguese international could have scored many more, but the keeper stood tall between his posts and some shots were off target.
Madrid were led in the midfield by Luka Modric, who almost always found a teammate to pass the ball to accurately as his vision allowed him to do so. The midfield tank, Xabi Alonso, did his job as he swept away the danger in front of his back line to keep the hosts at bay. Isco ended up having to push up to the false-nine position as Karim Benzema was replaced by Angel Di Maria due to injury. The Argentine winger moved to the central mid position, but, of course, drifted wide and into the final third to cause havoc.
The hosts were led by a decent performance from Galatasaray loanee Noureddine Amrabat, who played as a winger, taking on opponents and setting up his other teammates. His speed, skill and trickery allowed Malaga to create more than expected and give trouble to capital side.
The final score was 1-0 to the visitors … which was less than expected. The other best chance of the game was when Di Maria led a counter attack straight down the middle of the park only to send Isco through and watch him blast a shot high over the crossbar. Regardless, the one goal provided them with the three points they needed to stay atop the La Liga standings.
