The 2014 World Cup is only months away and as teams begin to shape up, the whole world is on their feet wondering what their team will look like. The Netherlands don’t have the biggest talent pool to choose from, but they do have a lot of talent. Hopefully their lineup will be able to take down the best of the best, and I think it’ll even stand a chance at winning the World Cup.
The team’s No. 1 forward without a doubt is Robin van Persie; he is incredible when playing with Manchester United and is his nation’s leading goal scorer. His fellow forwards will most likely be Arjen Robben and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar; Huntelaar specifically has shown a lot of improvement especially after injury.
The bad news for Netherlands fans is that midfielder Kevin Strootman will not make it to the World Cup this year after sustaining an injury with AS Roma. The good news is Netherlands has many other worthy midfielders. Besides Wesley Sneijder and Stijn Schaars, I think 25-year-old Siem de Jong is ready to fill in Strootman’s boots.
Feyenoord has found a pair of defenders who work for them, and I think they work for Netherlands too: Daryl Janmaat and Bruno Martins Indi. I think a great addition to those two will be Aston Villa‘s Ron Vlaar and Paris Saint-Germain‘s Gregory van der Wiel; those players come from some of the top European teams, which is the level needed in the World Cup.
Chances aren’t looking good for Tim Krul in goal, as he was left off the roster for Netherlands’ friendly against France earlier this month. I think the best bet for the team is to put Jasper Cillessen in goal. He did receive the call-up for France this month and is also the primary goalkeeper for AFC Ajax.
