Napoli defeated a Juventus side impressively by a score of 2-0 thanks to goals from Jose Callejon and Dries Mertens for the first time since 2011. The gap between the two on the table is still large, but the quality of play is much closer.

When Napoli play at home, they seem to play as the kings of soccer. When they play away, they seem to play like nothing more than unwanted guests. Well, luckily for them, they hosted a Juventus side who are well on their way to defending their Serie A title, but were not as focused as usual near their own frame.

Callejon scored once and could have had many more if it were not for the 36-year-old Italian international keeper, Gianluigi Buffon, who had yet another outstanding performance. In addition to Callejon, Gonzalo Higuain and Marek Hamsik controlled the tempo in the offensive half of the match. However, the introduction of Mertens really gave the home side a big boost as he added pace, skill and a smart goal to make Buffon look a bit helpless.

Napoli need to play as well on the road because they would not be 17 points away of the leaders if they did. Instead, they would be the title contenders that they should be as they have the quality on the field and a strong coach in Rafael Benitez who has proven himself time and time again. Regardless, they are still comfortably in third place ahead of Fiorentina by 12 points.

The youth on the team sometimes make unneeded errors, but once they learn to avoid those, they can end up having great seasons. Winning the title this season is not happening as Juve will not continue to drop points, which means that next season will be a brand new chapter for this club, who will have their leader and squad ready to fix their mistakes to continue defeating the big boys.
