EPL's Best XI Of The Month: March 2014

There have been many spectacular performances this past month in the EPL, ranging from stellar rock-like performances between the pipes to players bagging braces and hat tricks left and right. It is only right to recognize the top 11 players of the league by their positions. For the purpose of the list, I'll be using a 4-3-3 formation.

This month, Cech allowed only two goals from the opposing side, as well as one own goal header by John Terry which probably would have been a great score, if not into his own net. He also scored two more clean sheets in five starts, giving him a record of 3-2.

While adding only a yellow and a red with his three starts this month, the team has only conceded one goal on a desperate goal by Arsenal's Mathieu Flamini.

Defender - Martin Skrtel - Liverpool

Personally, I cannot stand Martin Skrtel. Most players in the league would agree, as Liverpool's bruising defender can be downright nasty on the field to his opponents, their legs, and their nets (this month). Skrtel has only six goals on the year, but scored two of them this past month, both on corner kicks. The Slovakian also contributed an assist, his first of the year.

Defender - Dejan Lovren - Southampton

Dejan Lovren is making a name for himself with Southampton as he is proving his worth in the league. On the month, he has added no statistics, but as a defender, the best statistic to add is a W. Lovren helped guide 3-2-0 record on the month, with only one blowout game against streaking Liverpool F.C. As of late, Lovren has also been linked to the Anfield side for the next year.

The Toffee's young wingback/winger Seamus Coleman has had a decent month on defense, leading to his selection here. Colemon contributed one goal as well as some solid defending, leading to a 5-0-0 record for Everton, which has allowed them stay in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

Midfielder - Steven Gerrard - Liverpool

The tried-and-true captain of Liverpool, Steven Gerrard helped lead his team to a perfect record on the month, going 5-0-0. In his five starts, he netted four goals, three of which came from the penalty spot. The lone goal scored from outside the box was a wonderful silky free kick against Sunderland. Gerrard is enjoying a resurgent year, scoring 11 goals, his most since 2008-09.

In his four starts this month, the Ivorian has four goals (including a hat trick) and an assist on his way to 3-0-1 record on the month, while also providing a nice defensive presence when needed. Almost a Swiss army knife for his team, he is also my selection for player of the month.

Midfielder - Andre Schurrle - Chelsea

The German Midfielder has come on this month with four goals and an assist, for the second-place Blues of Chelsea. Three of them came in wonderful fashion against Fulham. While Schurrle has played well this month, Chelsea went a shocking 3-2-0 with two ugly losses to Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

The big Belgian rumbled his way to three goals and an assist this month as Everton continues to amaze with their spot in the league. Lukaku continues to make Chelsea fans' stomach sick for the loan as he continuously applies pressure on the back lines ... pressure that Chelsea's top three forwards (Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o, and Demba Ba) seem to be lacking.

While he isn't a league favorite with his antics, "The Cannibal of Ajax" has wormed his way into becoming an Liverpool legend with six more goals this month to catapult him into the record books. He broke Robbie Fowler's record for goals in a season with 29. Suarez still has a chance to break the BPL record of 34 by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole. He also added two assists.

No matter how badly David Moyes runs Manchester United into the ground, you can count on one thing: Wayne Rooney will score and score often. The hairplugged forward contributed five goals and an assist on the month, while leading Man U to a 3-2-0 record during March.
