Here's La Liga's Best XI of the week for the weekend of March 29!
In a crucial 2-1 Atletico Madrid win at Athletic Bilbao, this Belgian international had to make a point-blank save to tip a header over the bar in order for his club to grab all three points. With that save, Courtois ensured that Atletico regained top spot from Barcelona in the La Liga standings.
Besides keeping Ray Vallecano's winger quiet, he managed to score his first ever goal for Real Madrid during the weekend. He is the future of this club and at 22, he still has room to improve.
This man helped Barcelona earn a crucial three points in the Catalan derby at RCD Espanyol by making sure the opponents could not find the back of the net. He is not the cleanest defender by any means, but he is strong, smart and calm in all situations.
In a 5-0 win against Rayo Vallecano, Ramos made his return from suspension by helping Diego Lopez avoid any trouble in frame. His defensive ability is key to the performance of Real Madrid so if he makes an error, the club struggles as a whole in the defensive third. When he has a good game, the team has a good game.
Usually benched in favor of Marcelo, Coentrao made the most of his start by shutting down the left flank to give Rayo Vallecano trouble when it came to attacking. He pushed up to aid the attack by crossing the ball as another option in possession. He works hard, doesn't complain and almost never makes mistakes under pressure.
A former Real Madrid man, Leon has become an irreplaceable the starting right midfielder for Getafe. He was responsible for icing the game at Valencia when he scored the third and final goal in a memorable 3-1 victory.
Koke, 22, is already a stalwart in the center of the park as his midfield abilities stretch from helping to defend to holding the ball up so teammates can get open for a dangerous pass. His youth is refreshing as he brings a whole new card to the table each time he plays. He scored the game-winning goal at Athletic Bilbao to earn all three points for his Atletico Madrid side, who now top the table.
The central midfielder of Barcelona did quite well to clean up messes in the center of the park against Espanyol. He breaks up plays by making timely tackles and reading passes to start most of Barcelona's counterattacks. He is a quality player who can adapt to quick styles of play and who is instrumental to his club.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored once and assisted teammate Dani Carvajal to rack up his stats in a 5-0 Real Madrid win over Rayo Vallecano. He is not the best at defending as he is solely attack-minded, but this is beneficial for a club that is all about that.
Diego Costa scored the equalizer against Athletic Bilbao before they went on to win 2-1 to grab all the crucial points for Atletico Madrid. His strength, speed, skill and knack for scoring all make him the danger that he is to all opposing defenders and keepers. He has carried this team's offense on his shoulders all season long, and will continue to be a threat for both his club and country,
Gareth Bale scored a brace inside two minutes to help push Real Madrid to a 5-0 thumping over Rayo Vallecano. His second goal was on a brilliant counter in which is gathered possession in midfield, evaded a bunch of defenders before scoring against the helpless keeper. This showed his speed, strength and ability to score under immense pressure.
