Week 7 MLS MVP Candidates

There have been six weeks of MLS action so far, and I still feel it's very early in the season. However, many players have already stood out amongst the rest. These are the men who truly give it their all on the pitch and often make match-altering plays. Here are my top five choices for MLS MVP candidates so far this season.

5. Quincy Amarikwa

Chicago Fire are doing well with its strikers. Mike Magee may not be scoring as much as hoped for, but Quincy Amarikwa has truly been stepping up. Amarikwa has four goals so far this season and continues to give it his all on the pitch. He's a true game-changer and Fire opponents definitely need to watch out for him.

4. Robbie Keane

Robbie Keane is back at it again. He was last year's MVP runner-up, and he's back to his old ways scoring goals and making plays. LA Galaxy's captain is the DP most clubs dream of, because he's quick and knows how to get the ball to net. He's really gotten the club back on the roll, and hopefully he keeps it up.

3. Clint Dempsey

Clint Dempsey is the highest paid player in the MLS, and he's proven his value to the Seattle Sounders week after week. Not only is he leading in the league in goals, but he also has four assists. He's the best kind of offensive player, and the Seattle Sounders appreciate him as much at the U.S. National Team will this summer.

2. Dom Dwyer

Dom Dwyer's return to Sporting Kansas City after his loan stint with Orlando City last season has proven to be nothing but fruitful for the club. He played an impressive match this weekend, scoring two of the four goals Sporting Kansas City tallied against Montreal Impact. He was a crucial player for KC this week, and I can see him continuing in that role.

1. Nick Rimando

If it comes as any surprise that Nick Rimando is the No. 1 pick for MVP candidate this week, then you must have not been paying attention this weekend. This is not Rimando's first week winning MLS Player of the Week, and he continues to wow fans and critics alike. Real Salt Lake has found its star, but they'll have to go without during the World Cup in a couple months.
