2014 World Cup: The Top 5 Players From Group B

2014 World Cup: The Top 5 Players From Group B

With both finalists from the last World Cup, Group B will be one of the most competitive groups of the 2014 World Cup. Of course, quality teams means that there are a lot of quality players, and in terms of star power, Group B may be the top group in this year’s tournament. The players are nearly impossible to separate from one another, but here are who we think are the top five players in Group B.

5. Cesc Fabregas, Spain

This spot could belong to any number of Spanish players, but will give it to Fabregas because of his vast experience and versatility. He’s played in so many games for both club and country, and he’s played so many different positions that he’s one of the most valuable players Spain has, and he deserves recognition as one of the top players in Group B.

4. Robin Van Persie, Netherlands

After leading UEFA in goals during qualifying, Van Persie remains one of the top strikers in the world. He’s perhaps the most well rounded striker in the game today, as his passing and creativity are nearly as impressive as his ability to score goals, and if things go well for the Netherlands during the World Cup, it’ll be because Van Persie put a few in the back of the net.

3. Arjen Robben, Netherlands

Love him or hate (and it’s perfectly all right if you hate him), Robben is an incredibly talented player. He has great skill, and few players are as dangerous as him attacking out of the midfield. He’s the kind of player that opposing defenders hate to play against, and he’s going to be difficult for opposing teams to deal with throughout the World Cup.

2. Xavi, Spain

This World Cup is likely to be Xavi’s international swan song, but he’s still going to be one of the best players on the field in every game he plays. At age 34, he’s still one of the most creative midfielders in the game and has the ability to be one of the main catalysts for Spain making a run at back-to-back world championships.

Iniesta is one of the most dynamic attacking players in the world. His teammates call him a magician, and he’s perhaps the biggest reason why Spain has won three straight major tournaments, and why they’re one of the leading favorites to win this tournament. His talent is something few players in the world can top, and he’s undoubtedly the best player participating in Group B.
