Top 5 Things On New Manchester United Manager Louis Van Gaal's To-Do List

Louis Van Gaal was confirmed as the new Manchester United manager this week, and he will now have a rebuilding job to do at Old Trafford -- certainly in the first year, at least. The World Cup will be his primary focus at this very moment as he is the boss of the Dutch team, but upon his return from Brazil, Van Gaal will have matters to attend to as he starts the process of rebuilding Manchester United.

Seeing any professional team not be capable of passing a ball five yards to a teammate, or even control a ball at times, is frankly beyond belief. Technically, most people reading this can pass a ball five yards, never mind professional players. These are basic things that United struggled to do at times last season. It has to be mental, and confidence is clearly at an all-time low for the usually ultra-successful Red Devils.

Manchester United have far too many good players, and not enough world-class players. Players who should be merely boosting a squad like Ashley Young, Nani, Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher and Rafael all start games for Manchester United. Can you imagine any of these players starting for Manchester City or Chelsea? United need a clear out and acquire the quality of players they need to compete at the highest level once again.

Ed Woodward has to perform better in the transfer market. Last summer was a disaster, and that was something that nobody could solely blame David Moyes for. Woodward has had his year to bed in now, and United need him to do his job and acquire the players that the manager needs. Van Gaal needs to round up his targets quickly and decisively and then leave Woodward to hopefully do his job.

Some of the better Manchester United players seem to all want to play the same position. Firstly, can Van Gaal get Juan Mata and Shinji Kagawa in the same team? Heck, does he even want to try? Van Gaal likes a 4-3-3 but he has shown flexibility to get the best out of certain players. Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie is another decision. Shoving Rooney out wide in a 4-3-3 wouldn't be advisable, but these are decisions for Van Gaal to make.

One of the biggest downfalls for David Moyes, in retrospect, was that the players never truly bought into his ideas and philosophy. Was that down to him or was it because those players didn't know any other way except for the Sir Alex Ferguson way? Regardless, Van Gaal has been known not to get on particularly well with some players in the past, but he'll need the United players to buy into his ideas pretty quickly.
