Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas has seemingly been told he can leave Barcelona this summer. All the current speculation is regarding exactly where Fabregas will end up going now. A return to the Premier League seems the most likely scenario, but which club will be the best fit for him? Who really needs the Spaniard more than anybody else? There is a lot to consider and these are the five most likely contenders to sign Fabregas.

With Liverpool finally making it back into the Champions League after a four-season absence from the competition, there really should be a more ambitious transfer strategy in this window. That should almost certainly mean more money to spend and, in theory, a better quality of player too. Fabregas would certainly fit into the current Liverpool style of play but just how ambitious Liverpool will be this summer is yet to be seen.

Initially a return to Arsenal would seem an obvious move for Fabregas to make. It would be the most seamless, but is the Spaniard a good fit at Arsenal right now? Fabregas is not really what Arsenal need. Arsenal need a defensive midfielder more than anything, and Arsenal's current problem is that they already have too many of the same type of player. It's tough to see how Fabregas fits at Arsenal right now, but you cannot rule it out either.

Manchester City looks the most fitting setup for Fabregas. Former teammates Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy are already at the club, as well as maybe being joined by Bacary Sagna too, if rumors are to be believed. Some of Fabregas' Spanish teammates are also at City in David Silva, Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negrado too. It is hard to see how Fabregas fits into the team, though, unless Yaya Toure leaves the club, and that saga needs to be resolved first.

2. Manchester United

Manchester United have been looking for a quality central midfielder for many years now. Finally it seems new manager Louis Van Gaal is aiming to address that issue and get some proven quality into that area of the team. Fabregas is proven at the highest level, and he could certainly fill the gap in the United midfield. But it all comes down to Van Gaal now and whether he sees Fabregas as the right player for his team or not.

After letting Frank Lampard leave the club, Chelsea will be looking for a replacement player this summer. Nemanja Matic seems certain to be the defensive midfielder next season, and Jose Mourinho just needs that technical player to play next to him. Fabregas has all the qualities to fill that role, and he is, of course, available too. Will his Arsenal links prevent him from agreeing to sign for Chelsea? Ultimately, he may not have much choice.
