People can argue all day about whether or not the FIFA rankings truly matter, but the truth is that these are the best rankings when it comes to statistics. A five-spot difference does not guarantee that the higher-ranked team will win, but it does mean that the team has performed better in the past. Take a look at where these five teams stand, because everything will change after the World Cup.

Belgium has made their final jump from 12th to 11th. It may not be the ideal place, but the closer they are to the top 10, the better. Belgium has a strong team going into the World Cup, and they will need to play their best when competing with the top teams.

4. Brazil

Brazil has moved to third place, which is just the spot they wish to be in. Brazil didn't make it to the final in 2010, but they could make it this year. First and second place in the rankings have been held by Spain and Germany respectively, and both teams will be tough to break. Brazil can avoid both until the final, which is an advantage for the team.

3. Switzerland

Switzerland do not have a huge following like Brazil, Germany or Spain, but they do deserve one. The Swiss have kept themselves among the top 10 and are currently in sixth place. Teams need to reevaluate their position if they believe Switzerland won't be a challenge. I think they will do well in the World Cup.

Croatia may not see 18th place as an ideal rank, but moving up two spots from 12th is important. The team is definitely not in the top 10, but they have a high chance of escaping group stage, which is all they really need. If they continue to play hard, they can go far in the World Cup.

1. Argentina

Argentina are always considered a top team on the international level, and it may be because of Leo Messi. Regardless, the team has now moved up two spots to fifth. Argentina often falters in international competition, but they were drawn into an easy group this summer. They will need to play their best to proceed afterwards and prove to the world that they are a top-five team.
