Spain is down to one warmup match and they are a week away from their World Cup start. It is hard to prepare a team for the biggest competition in the world, but they will be as ready as ever when they face off against the Netherlands. Luckily, their match against El Salvador will give them time to work out the kinks. Here are five things Spain needs to work on before hitting the pitch in Brazil.

Spain is home to some of the best midfielders in the world, including Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and Xabi Alonso. All of those players are stars in their own right, but they need to blend together as one for the midfield of Spain. Playing against each other in La Liga sometimes breaks chemistry, and they will need to regain it to win the World Cup.

The missing link from this World Cup is Carles Puyol. His retirement was not a shock, but the back line now needs to make sure the Puyol-sized hole doesn't let the team falter. Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique are still in top fitness, but the others will need to surely step up. Spain's defense is what has opposing forwards working their hardest to try to get one past it.

One of the most unexpected absences from Spain's World Cup lineup is Victor Valdes. His injury was upsetting and shocking to all fans. Iker Casillas continues to be the best goalkeeper in the world, but their backup goalkeepers need to be in top form; it is never known what will happen during the tournament. Pepe Reina is definitely ready to step up, but he and David De Gea need to make sure they can compete as Valdes did.

Spain's newest acquisition is Diego Costa. Although his recent cap with Spain was fruitless, he did more than prove his worthiness in La Liga this season. Unfortunately, he was hit with a rough injury leading up the the Champions League final. For Costa to be useful, he needs to reach peak fitness. He is slated to play in the warmup against El Salvador; hopefully, he wont aggravate the old injury before the Brazil.

Fernando Torres and David Villa's best days are behind them, but both players are still essential to the team. However, Spain is now without a powerful striker. If either Torres or Villa do not shape up, perhaps Pedro Rodriguez or Cesc Fabregas will be the men to look to. The ball is truly at anyone's feet, but one of the them needs to step up and hit the net for Spain.
