Ghana 2014 World Cup

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Ghana are perhaps one of the most interesting teams in the 2014 World Cup. The African team qualified for the World Cup with relative ease and boasts an extremely talented squad with both a mixture of veteran talent and up-and-coming stars. Unfortunately, Ghana were drawn in Group G with Germany, Portugal and the United States, and will face an uphill battle to try and make it to the knockout stages.

The fourth place team in last year’s African Cup of Nations, Ghana have one of the most athletic and physical teams in the World Cup. They tend to grind an opponent down with technical ability for 80-plus minutes and then strike late to win the game; something that the team must rely on once again to surprise everyone and make it out of the group stage.

Ghana are an extremely talented team that I would pick to advance in almost every other group in the 2014 World Cup. Unfortunately, it’s hard for me to see a scenario in which Ghana doesn’t finish in either third or fourth place in Group G. They could pull off a surprise upset and make it out on goal differential, but I think that Ghana will tie against both Portugal and the United States, leaving them with just two points and looking on the outside into the knockout stages.

TV Schedule:

Group Stage Game One: Ghana vs. United States – Monday, June 16, 6 p.m. EST on ESPN

Group Stage Game Two: Ghana vs. Germany – Saturday, June 21, 3 p.m, EST on ESPN

Group Stage Game Three: Ghana vs. Portugal – Thursday, June 26, Noon EST on ESPN2
