The 10 Most Intriguing Hairstyles of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil

The 10 Most Intriguing Hairstyles of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil

As this devout Brazilian fan shows, some people believe in making a statement with their grooming decisions and various hairstyles. In soccer, there are no hats or helmets to hide under. Its international influence often brings a wide array of styles to the pitch as a result. Here are 10 of the more recognizable looks for this year's tournament.

10. Neymar, Brazil

It's out of the ordinary, but not necessarily over the top. However, when it became common knowledge that Neymar was going to frost his tips in between Brazil's match against Croatia and Mexico, it became the number one searched topic on Google related to the Brazilian men's national team.

9. Benjamin Moukandjo, Cameroon

Skinny, short dreads that don't hang low or get in your eyes while you're on the pitch. Probably also useful for soaking up the rain like a sponge, and there has been a lot of rainfall so far in Brazil 2014. Unfortunately, it looks as though Moukandjo and Cameroon will not advance out of Group A.

8. Kyle Beckerman, USA

This midfielder looks like he is doing his best to channel a combination of Bob Marley and former USMNT star, Cobi Jones. Beckerman was born in Crofton, MD and is the captain of Real Salt Lake in MLS.

7. Kim Younggwon, Korea Republic

Part Justin Bieber circa 2010, and part John Lennon circa 1965 -- Kim decided to add a redish-orange tinge to his mop. Pretty, pretty... good, as Larry David would say. Except for David would not say that, because this haircut is brutal.

6. Gervinho, Ivory Coast

Reminiscent of Robert Griffin III's former look, Gervinho's hairline might recede a little too much for him to be able to pull off the braided look these days. Of course, he hides it well in this World Cup photo by wearing a sleeve around his head.

5. Ermin Bicakcic, Bosnia and Herzegovina

This photo doesn't really do the look any justice. His press photo for the FIFA World Cup website gives you a better idea. If he bleached it platinum blonde, Bicakcic would essentially share the same hairstyle with recording artist Pink's current hairdo.

4. Fidel Martinez, Ecuador

It's either a terrible mohawk, or a bleach-blonde limp-like rooster crown when exposed to water. Martinez should have seen that coming, considering 60 percent of the Amazon Rainforest calls Brazil home.

3. Bacary Sagna, France

Sagna has a unique hairstyle. Perhaps what is more interesting is that in the four years since he appeared in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, his hair looks basically identical to today's look.

2. Raul Meireles, Portugal

The combination of a mohawk with a viking-style beard is a look not so often associated with professional soccer. If the beard doesn't negatively affect Meireles' play in the hot, humid temperatures of the Brazilian World Cup, then I say play on good sir.

The second frenchman to appear on the list, Pogba's hair appears to be his trademark. Again, this shot does not do it any justice. You're better off checking out the photograph on the FIFA World Cup Website. If you visit his Twitter page, you will also see caricatures drawn of him sporting his one-of-a-kind thing.
