During the final minutes of stoppage time in their Group G match, Portugal pulled off a miraculous goal to end their match with Team USA in a 2-2 draw. After social media was going crazy in anticipation of a U.S. victory, it went silent…until Joel Embiid brought worlds of hate upon himself with a congratulatory tweet about Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo.
While most of the tweets ignorantly chastised Embiid for his lack of American pride, some verbally lashed him for his lack of respect for the U.S.
@JoelEmbiid if it wasn’t for the USA you’d still be living in a third world country, show some respect.

Embiid is a Cameroon native and his country is one of the 32 competing in this year’s World Cup, so even if he isn’t “rooting” for the U.S., shouldn’t he be only supporting Cameroon?
