Actor Will Ferrell is known in the public eye to be an avid sports fan. He has appeared in multiple sport-themed movies and television shows. The 46-year-old star of Kicking and Screaming did his best to inspire USMNT fans in Brazil before their 2014 World Cup match against Germany on June 26. For what it’s worth, the speech was rather tantalizing, and vintage Ferrell. Fans in attendance were no doubt treated to his usual antics before the USMNT managed to qualify for the Round of 16.

Though the outcome of the match versus Germany will have mixed feelings for the USMNT, the overall result it had in the tournament for them will be considered a positive. USA managed to advance, so to the superstitious, perhaps Ferrell should rally the troops again before they are set to take on their likely opponent, Belgium, in the knockout stages.

Ferrell played in a celebrity soccer match in 2012 in the United Kingdom for charity. The Hollywood funnyman and other celebrities eventually ended up raising $6.4 million for UNICEF. More recently, Ferrell was very vocal in his support of the Los Angeles Kings during their Stanley Cup playoff run. Other fairly recent public promotions Ferrell has been a part of were for Team USA at the Winter Games in Sochi, and in character as Ron Burgundy for the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials in December of 2013.
