Top 10 Friendlies of 2014

It's that time again. When MLS teams are taking on clubs from all over the world. The truth is, winning is not important in these matches, because these are just friendlies and watching these teams compete is still fun. Here are the top 10 matchups of the summer.

D.C. United has recently climbed the table and is in top form. It takes on Fulham, who finished at the bottom of the table in EPL last season. A win for DC would mean a lot in confidence and ability.

Columbus Crew is currently in 7th place in the Eastern Conference and it faced off against Crystal Palace. Crystal Palace finished in 11th in the EPL, and this meant the match could go either way. The teams ended up drawing 2-2 in what was a fairly decent match.

Houston Dynamo are set to face off against Aston Villa for a fun friendly. Dynamo have recently fallen to 9th place in the Eastern Conference and will take on a Villa who ended toward the bottom of the table last season. Don't expect a miracle for Dynamo, but Villa wont have an easy match.

The LA Galaxy match against Manchester United was plenty hyped up. Unfortunately for Galaxy fans, their team suffered a crushing defeat against Manchester. The 7-0 loss did sting, but fans must remember the wide margin between player price tags.

The Seattle Sounders took on Tottenham Hotspur in what was a memorable match for a couple reasons. Tottenham was Clint Dempsey's old team prior to his return to MLS, and also Sounders new "signing" Xander Bailey was present for the match. The teams ended in a 3-3 draw, which makes for a fun match.

Sporting KC took on Manchester City in a good match. Reigning MLS Cup champions currently sit in first place in the Eastern Conference and Manchester City were the EPL champions of last season. City understandably took Sporting down 4-1, but Sporting did put up quite the fight.

Real Salt Lake is set to take on Club Tijuana from Liga MX. Hopefully RSL will be able to take down Los Xolos in what would be a victory for all MLS. Los Xolos are often rivals for any MLS team during the CONCACAF Champions League, and it would be great for RSL to win the match.

The New York Red Bulls will take on EPL club Arsenal. Red Bulls are currently struggling to reach the top of the table in the Eastern Conference, while Arsenal were the FA cup winners and finished in 4th in the EPL last season. This match will be a lot of fun to watch.

The San Jose Earthquakes are set to take on La Liga's Atletico Madrid. San Jose currently sits at the bottom of the Western Conference table, while Atletico won first place in La Liga and made it to the UEFA Champions League final. However, Atletico has experienced a lot of movement in its lineup, which may give San Jose a little help.

The final friendly that everyone should watch is the MLS All-Star match. While most sports leagues put their best players against each other, MLS puts their best players against another league's top team. This year the team is Bayern Munich. It will be fun to see how the result comes out against a team that holds many World Cup winners.
