The talented Belgium striker from Lille, Divock Origi, has been rumored to be linked to Liverpool FC and Atletico Madrid. Today, Liverpool and Origi agreed on a five-year deal that would total £10 million. However, Origi will not play for the reds in the 2014-15 season. Brendan Rodgers will loan Origi back to Lille for this upcoming season to develop Origi even further.
This will be an opportunity of a lifetime for Origi as his name gathered buzz amongst some of the top soccer teams in the world. Origi has all the potential to become maybe one of the best forwards on the planet and it helps that Origi is only 19 years old. Origi was able to display his talents at the 2014 World Cup by playing in every game for Belgium and contributed to the game-winning goal against Russia in the group stage.
Liverpool needs forwards and by signing Origi, it is a step in the right direction. After losing Luis Suarez to FC Barcelona, there was a void left in which Rodgers will look to fill. Suarez contributed to 30 goals last season and that is a statistic that is difficult to replace. Rodgers will look to make up for that absence by working in the aggregate.
Liverpool has been busy this transfer window by already signing five players: Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Dejan Lovren and Lazar Markovic. However, for Liverpool, Lallana will not be available for the season opener which caused Rodgers to act fast and sign another forward. Origi is the guy right now, but Liverpool will have to wait until next season to utilize his talents at forward.
