Despite Poor Pre-Season, Real Madrid Still on Top
After a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday, many have begun to doubt whether Real Madrid C.F. can continue on their success from last season, in which they won the Copa Del Rey and secured the elusive tenth Champions League title. Although the club did not have the majority of their first team on the US Tour, including new acquisitions Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, many still criticized their poor play against some of Europe’s top teams.
Fortunately for Real Madrid, that’s now in the past and now they can shift their attention towards Sevilla F.C., who they will play in the UEFA Super Cup on August 12th. The Super Cup will be the first of six titles that Madrid will try to achieve in their 2014-15 campaign. In order to be successful in their campaign, Madrid will rely on their star-studded squad that costs more than any other team on the planet. Coach Carlo Ancelotti and club President Florentino Perez have been able to assemble a squad that reminds the footballing world of the original “Galacticos” back when Madrid brought in players like Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, and of course the Brazilian legend Ronaldo to conquer Spanish and European competitions.
This current squad, however, has been and will be able to accomplish what the former Galacticos could not. With already one Champions League title under their belt, Real Madrid look to begin a new dynasty. With a relatively young squad, the potential for Los Blancos is limitless. Football fans all across the world are in for a treat these next few years.
