Tottenham Signs English Defender Eric Dier After Doubts Regarding the Transfer of DeAndre Yedlin
As of yesterday, the world found out that Tottenham has moved into the lead for the DeAndre Yedlin sweepstakes. Just as I thought that AS Roma had signed the young American defender, I was deceived by the transfer window. It seems like the transfer window has been quite deceiving this season. For instance, all the rumors regarding Arturo Vidal and Manchester United and every other player linked to Manchester United.
Anyway, after having doubts that Yedlin might not sign with the English team, Tottenham went on and signed a young defender in Eric Dier from Sporting Lisbon. Dier participates in the U-21 England team as a central defender, but can become versatile on defense.
After heeding the warning of former American goalkeeper, Kasey Keller, not only has it reached Yedlin, but also Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino. Keller bluntly stated that heading to Tottenham could be a big mistake for Yedlin because of the huge turnover of players and Yedlin might not even be eligible for a work permit due to the lack of starts for the United States National team. In that warning, Pochettino had to have a backup plan and signing Dier was it.
Prior to the signing of Dier, Pochettino also completed the signing of Ben Davies from Swansea City. Davies has been one of the best defenders in the English Premier League and will ultimately start from the get-go.
With Kyle Walker, Dier and Davies on the team, it would make the leap for Yedlin quite difficult due to the probability of not making the first eleven. Walker, in particular, would most likely make it the hardest for Yedlin.
