After such a horrible excuse for a team last season, Manchester United will be hoping to quickly rebound and make their way back to an elite team in the Premier League again. Last season Manchester United was completely horrible. They had no direction and their defense was abysmal. The midfield was clustered with under-performing stars and the strikers had no sense of direction. Louis Van Gaal has taken over from David Moyes after the fans and the players could not take it any more. Last season it seemed that all of the players were players at half their potential.
Moyes was criticized heavily for coming in and changing up all of the backroom staff and procedures that the former manager Alex Ferguson left at the club. As a result, the players had a hard time warming up to him. Wayne Rooney is the axis upon which United must spin to be successful in winning the league. Rooney is the type of player who is influential and can change a game at any give moment because of the world class talent which he has. Rooney has the range and versatility to play as a defensive box-to-box midfielder to a marauding striker on form.
If Rooney can stay fit throughout the season, United have a real chance at the title. We cannot forget nor dispute that there are other players that Manchester United has that can be crucial in the title race such as Robin Van Persie, David DeGea, Danny Welbeck and Juan Mata. If all these players can hit form at the right time, the Premier League will be something to behold. Other teams would not be a walk over, but with someone as experienced and competitive as Van Gaal at the helm, Manchester United could make a swift return to their glory days.
