Chelsea are currently bookies favourites to win the Premier League this season, but many still see Manchester City as the team to beat. However, I believe Chelsea are going to walk the title.
Chelsea won 23 points against the top six teams out of a possible 30, the most of any side. They beat the top two, Manchester City and Liverpool, both home and away, losing to the like of Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Stoke. This could be down to Jose Mourinho‘s constant playing down of Chelsea’s chances, becoming a self fulfilling prophecy. However, this year, with an improved squad and a new attitude they will continue to dominate the top things, as it is Mourinho’s speciality, and start to beat the lower teams more comfortably.
Also, Chelsea’s defense is going to be a force to be reckoned with. Better than ever with a rejuvenated John Terry, ever reliable Gary Cahill and youth in the form of Nathan Ake and Kurt Zouma. With a keeper problem the likes of which all managers would be jealous of, the defense Chelsea boasts, has depth as well as incredible talent. Mourinho’s philosophy revolves around defense first, and with the defense Chelsea have they will set all manor of records.
Along with the huge amounts of talent the Chelsea squad already boasted, they have finally solved the problem of the striker. The answer, Diego Costa, will also be able to learn from Didier Drogba, who also returned to the Club this summer. Some people do not believe Costa is good enough, but this is largely down to his poor World Cup performance. However, he played that World Cup, carrying an injury, playing in a side that, for starters, has never played with a No. 9 type center forward. Furthermore, he plays a style that doesn’t incorporate a striker like Costa. He will, however, thrive in Chelsea’s fast paced, more direct system, which will see him recreate his 27 La Liga goals last season and make people forget about the World Cup.
If you are still doubtful of Chelsea’s title credentials, ask yourself is there any other Premier League squad and manager better equipped for the Title Race than Chelsea’s.
