New Premier League Season Brings More Title Contenders
The Premier League commences in just two days with Manchester United kicking off the new campaign at home against Swansea City. A new formation, a new coach in Louis van Gaal and some new players will bring a brand new type of success to this club. They are definitely favorites to win the title at the end of the season, but there are other clubs that are just as capable.
Chelsea have added Filipe Luis (left back) and Diego Costa (striker) both from Atletico Madrid, which enjoyed an appearance in the final of the UEFA Champions League. Jose Mourinho also chose to bring aboard Cesc Fabregas, the former Arsenal and Barcelona central midfielder to perhaps replace the vacant role left by the one and only Frank Lampard. Thibaut Courtois is also the new starting goalkeeper after his brilliant loan performance at Atletico Madrid last season.
With these four signings, Chelsea have added leadership, dedication and clutch abilities to a team that was missing all of this last season as they fell short in every competition. They are easily considered one of the favorites to win the Premier League and the other domestic competitions as well. The club now has a decent depth that was not there before. However, the bench and the reserves are not as capable as the starters. In order for them to be serious contenders, Mourinho needs to shape his boys up.
Arsenal added Alexis Sanchez to bolster the attack and a key defensive piece in Mathieu Debuchy as the new starting right back to add stability and pace up the wing. The club is playing remarkable soccer and can rely on the fact that injured stars from last season are now fully healthy and ready to go this season. Coach Arsene Wenger has been at the helm of this club since 1996. Therefore, he should have a much better idea of how to put together a plan to finally win the big one.
Liverpool sold Luis Suarez and managed to add Dejan Lovren (defense), Lazar Markovic (winger), Emre Can (midfield), Adam Lallana (midfield) and Rickie Lambert (striker) to boost the club’s depth as well as starting XI to add consistency. These signings give hope to the club that their teamwork could replace the raw ability that Suarez possesses. More is better than one, but this is the Premier League where sometimes more is too much. Regardless, this is a team capable of winning the Premier League with good coaching from Brendan Rogers. The depth is phenomenal compared to last season.
Last but not least, the reigning champions, Manchester City, are already the top favorites. They won it last season by a mere two points ahead of Liverpool but did so deservedly as they were the most dominant side in the league. They added some key pieces in Elaquim Mangala (defense) and Fernando (midfield) to go along with their already concrete roster. With these new additions and some others players returning to full fitness, the bench, reserves and of course the starters are ready to defend their title.
The best candidate to win the league is Manchester City as the club has done so twice now in the past three seasons. The players know what has to be done, and the coach, Manuel Pellegrini, now knows what is needed to be successful in this league after only a season in charge.
