Before last season not many people knew about Adnan Januzaj. The young Belgian was a part of the Manchester United youth setup after leaving his hometown club Anderlecht at the age of 16. He broke into the first team under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson but never made his competitive debut until the Aug. 11, 2013 against Wigan Athletic. Former United manager David Moyes entrusted the young Belgian with a good amount of games in which he rarely disappointed. He soon became one of the first names on the team sheets, and as time grew he became more confident in the big games.
Sometimes it is hard to remember that Januzaj is only 19 and that a lot of his development is yet to take place, but with the right management, this season could be crucial. Louis van Gaal has come into play as the new United manager, and it is certain that he has heard the myriad of comments about the youngster’s performances. It would only be fair for van Gaal to give him a chance and see what he is really all about.
While this might be hard for van Gaal to do because of the pressure he is under to deliver trophies as soon as possible, I believe that given the chance Januzaj can prove to be just what van Gaal is looking for — a quick, smart winger. Januzaj has recently just inherited the No. 11 shirt from Ryan Giggs, a left-footed player just as himself who is considered a legend by nearly every United fan around the world.
Januzaj have more than enough support to fulfill his potential in United’s midfield this season. With the reinforcements that van Gaal has made and the talent that has been there before, we can expect to see thrilling and exciting flashes from this youngster.
