Two games are now history in the Premier League for Manchester United and they have not been the result many expected. After such a great preseason, many of the fans were expecting United to be able to easily beat both Swansea and Sunderland, but as we can see, that is definitely not the case. Manchester United’s manager Louis Van Gaal has made clear that the team needs to acquire more players before they can become genuine contenders to the league trophy, but it is clear United needs much more than that.
United have gone into the market and invested again in the Argentinian winger from Real Madrid, Angel Di Maria. This player is undoubtedly a class player. Most of the Madrid fans see him as the unsung hero, as using Cristiano Ronaldo using picks up all the praise, but Di Maria is also in a class of his own. The winger played exceptionally well at the 2014 World Cup before injuring himself and had a brilliant career with Real Madrid scoring 22 goals in 124 appearances after moving from S. L. Benfica in the summer of 2010.
Even though Di Maria has a wealth of experience and talent, Manchester United has had their share of wingers who also fail to produce at times. Antonio Valencia, Nani, Ashley Young are some of the players in this position at United in the past and they never seem consistent enough to make a real change in fortune for United.
Van Gaal is an amazing coach and it is possible that he can get the best out of every player, but with so many players in the same role for United throughout the years, and nothing significant happening, maybe bringing Di Maria to United may not have been such a wise investment. Only time will tell.
