Diego Costa: Chelsea Striker Looks Like Early Golden Boot Favorite
With his first-minute goal against Everton, Diego Costa has now scored in all three of his Premier League appearances. Despite suffering an injury during training earlier this week, Costa passed his fitness test and was given the start against Everton. Costa has given Chelsea a consistent striker which was missing for the Blues in the past few years. With Romelu Lukaku not being able to establish himself at Stamford Bridge and the poor form of Fernando Torres, Costa was brought to give Chelsea a consistent No. 9 up top.
With talented midfielders like Eden Hazard, Oscar and Cesc Fabregas providing balls for the Spaniard, the goals have just been piling up. Chelsea haven’t had a player finish as the top scorer of the Premier League since the 2009-10 campaign, when Didier Drogba finished with 29 goals during his first stint with the club. Three games in, Costa already looks to be the favorite for the Golden Boot.
With the departure of Torres to AC Milan on a two-year loan, Chelsea now have a good mix of forwards with Costa, the experienced Drogba and German star Andre Schurrle.
However, the one problem Costa has had to deal with has been his struggle to stay injury-free. Last year with Atletico, Costa suffered a hamstring injury which forced him to miss the majority of the final game of La Liga against Barcelona and the Champions League final against Real Madrid. Despite being deemed healthy enough to play in the World Cup in Brazil, Costa still seemed to be struggling. Spain was eventually eliminated in the group stage.
Assuming he stays healthy, look for Diego Costa to keep the goals coming.
