Radamel Falcao was not included in AS Monaco‘s squad for their match against Lille today. Instead, Falcao watched the match from the stands with his agent by his side. In the past few weeks, there have been numerous rumors linking the Colombian striker to some of Europe’s top teams. Real Madrid and Manchester City have been labeled as favorable destinations.
The footballing world was shocked earlier this morning, as a tweet from Falcao’s account claimed that he was on his way to Madrid. The tweet was later deleted and Falcao denied posting it. According to several sources, Falcao had to delete the tweet since the transfer was not official yet. Falcao also followed Manchester City players Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta and David Silva on Twitter, which prompted many people to believe that the Colombian was on his way to the Etihad.
Should Madrid sign Falcao, the striker would only strengthen an offense that’s already viewed as the world’s best. The only problem that Carlos Ancelotti would face would be who to start at the striker position. Falcao would be the favorite to start, but Karim Benzema has been Madrid’s best striker the past few years and has formed a strong bond with his teammates.
Should City sign Falcao, the Sky Blues would most likely have to unload a striker before the transfer window closes. Already having Negredo, Jovetic, Aguero and Dzeko could give Manuel Pellegrini problems managing playing time for his strikers.
Regardless, whichever team acquires Falcao will pick up arguably the world’s best striker.
