Arsenal: Lack of Finishing Costs the Gunners to Drop Points
Despite taking 24 shots, Arsenal was only able to put one in the back of the net against Leichester City in their third Premier League match of the season. The match eventually ended in a draw and Arsenal slipped to fifth in the league table. Despite controlling the tempo for the majority of the game, it was the lack of finishing that cost the Gunners to lose points. With Olivier Giroud out till 2015, 21 year-old Yaya Sanogo was given the start. The inexperienced forward had many attempts but could not find the back of the net. Lukas Podolski was eventually subbed on for the Frenchman, but was also unfortunate in his attempts to score.
Following the match, several supporters started questioning whether Arsene Wenger should sign another striker before the transfer window closes. After losing out on Remy and Chicharito, the list of available strikers is shrinking and only a few hours remain in the transfer window.
For Arsenal, the time is now to capture as many points as they can in the league. The Gunners are already four points behind Chelsea and the Blues aren’t looking like a team that will drop points anytime soon. With the group stage of the Champions League starting soon, the difficulty to win league matches will increase.
If Arsenal fails to sign a striker, Arsene Wenger will then have a big decision to make on who to place up top. Many supporters have been awaiting the league debut of Costa Rican star Joel Campbell. The 22-year-old was very impresive in the World Cup and in preseason. Lukas Podolski is the most experienced of the forwards and will most likely be called on to help the Gunners get goals.
All in all, if Arsenal wants to contest for the Premier League title, as well as the Champions League, they will surely need an improvement at the striker position.
