After an eventful Week 8 in the English Premier League, Week 9 is sure to throw up yet more storylines and surprises when the 20 EPL teams take to the field. The fear of relegation grips around two-thirds of the league, and most teams will be around the bottom three places at some point or another. Here are the top five teams on relegation watch more than most heading into Week 9.

Crystal Palace have lost their last two league games, although one of those was unsurprisingly against Chelsea last weekend. Over the course of the first eight games, though, only bottom of the table Queens Park Rangers have more defeats on their record than Palace. Sunderland are next up for the Eagles, followed by West Bromwich Albion, and Palace will need to put some points on the board in both of those games.

Sunderland only have one win from their first eight games, but it's the manner of their most recent loss -- an 8-0 defeat to Southampton last weekend -- which will have really set the alarm bells ringing at the Stadium of Light. It's one thing to lose games and struggle, but 8-0 is an embarrassment to the club and its fans. Sunderland play Arsenal in Week 9, and although 8-0 might not be in the cards again, another loss just might be.

Newcastle United earned a much-needed win against Leicester City in Week 8, and the Magpies will now be hoping to build on that and move up the league table. Although, with games against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City to come next, Newcastle and Alan Pardew might just have to sit tight in the relegation places for a little while yet.

2. Burnley

Burnley are the only team in the Premier League that have yet to win a single game this season. The Clarets have also only mustered four goals so far, and that tally will need to improve before the team will be able to secure the necessary wins to escape the relegation zone. With Everton and Arsenal up next, things could get worse before they get any better for Sean Dyche and his team.

Queens Park Rangers played well against Liverpool on Sunday but still left with another loss on their record. The R's will have a great opportunity to get a win, however, in Week 9 when they take on an Aston Villa team in free-fall currently. A performance like the one Harry Redknapp's team produced against Liverpool will give them a good chance of doing that, but it is points, not performances, which the club are most desperate for right now.
