Constructing A Best XI Of Manchester United, Chelsea Players

Sunday sees Chelsea away to Louis Van Gaal's troops in one of the most hotly-anticipated games of the weekend. Chelsea are in fine form, having not lost a league game so far, while Manchester United are still finding their feet under the new regime. Both sides are filled with talented players, but here we examine what a combined best XI would look like with players from both sides. Think you could do better? Let us know in the comments section.

He may not wear the No. 1 jersey for Chelsea, but it's clear he's Jose Mourinho's preferred custodian. Calm, calculated and confident, the former Atletico Madrid man is already a hugely accomplished 'keeper and he's still only 22 years of age. He definitely gets the nod over Petr Cech and David De Gea, simply due to his natural talent and composure -- and he's getting better all the time.

Beating off opposition from Cesar Azpilicueta and Filipe Luis, the Manchester United new boy gets the nod due to his adaptability. Capable of playing as a wing-back like the other two, he can also play as a left central-midfielder, as he showed expertly during the Netherlands' fantastic World Cup campaign.

This choice might cause a bit of consternation, but the oftentimes recalcitrant defender has more experience at this level than any other defender on either team's rota. A genuine leader who's vocal, he can also grab goals pretty snappily too. He knows the English game inside-out and is head and shoulders above the rest, despite his age.

Capable of playing the right-back role, although more used to a place at the heart of the Blues' defence, the Serbian international captain would add a certain physicality to this line-up. Much like Terry, he's experienced more than enough seasons in the Premier League and is more defensively sound than Antonio Valencia or indeed his club-mate, Luis.

No one on the United squad could possibly snatch the Belgian's spot -- simply put, he's just too good. Two goals already to his name this season as well as an assist, he's not just making his talents count in the goals column, but in his general approach play. A real wizard with the ball at his feet, he creates space -- and penalties -- for the good of the team.

A champagne footballer, even when his side are -- rarely -- struggling to conjure something magical, he keeps it on ice, always seemingly managing to come up with the goods when needed. The relationship he's forged with Diego Costa is lethal, but his vision to pick a pass would pay dividends with many a top-class striker. Fabregas is just that good.

A grafter and a hard worker, Matic does the hard grind alongside Cesc Fabregas, but he doesn't really get the same plaudits as him. He's a necessary component that really holds Chelsea's midfield together. Often over-looked, but not here -- he definitely deserves inclusion.

Trying to find anybody to put a case against the former Real Madrid man's inclusion would be trickier than this guy's footwork because he's just a phenomenal player with so many outstanding attributes. Not only can he dribble, but he can pick inch-perfect passes, conjure up beautiful off-the-ball moves and, most importantly, score goals. Only new to the league and already one of its biggest attractions.

If Frank Lampard was still a member of Roman Abramovich's club, he'd get the nod here, but as it is, Spain's Juan Mata gets selected first. Used negatively under Louis Van Gaal so far this season and shipped off wrongly by The “Special One," it's annoying to see his talents wasted, but he's still an incredible talent and will play a vital role in his team's season.

Mourinho might be too busy embroiled in mind games over his fitness, but the Spain international doesn't seem too perturbed by the whole media circus. Getting on with smashing home goals for fun, the former Atletico star would be either a dream spearhead with Falcao behind him or vica-versa. With nine goals to his name already this league campaign, expect him to rattle Van Gaal's rickety back-line with a goal or two this weekend.

He may not have yet reached the heights many are expecting him to scale, but there's just no denying this man's fantastic ability. Alongside Costa, he'd surely have a partnership to rival the ages. Unfortunately, this Sunday sees them pitted against each other.
