Manchester United Begin to Impress After Stealing Point From Chelsea FC
Manchester United have been criticized all season for having less-than-stellar performances. They had a terrible season for 2013-14, and this season did not appear to be any different. Even with Louis van Gaal, they don’t seem to be improving on their seventh-place finish from last season.
On Sunday, they took on undefeated Premier League table leaders Chelsea FC, and in the stoppage time, with only a couple seconds left, they were down 1-0. Chelsea fans thought it was game over, but Robin van Persie was not having it. Van Persie upped the score and United took a 1-1 draw.
United proved a lot with their draw against Chelsea. They still sit all the way down in eighth place in the EPL table, but drawing against the EPL leaders in the last minutes of stoppage time really sends a message to everyone: United does not give up. It was a perfect set piece, and the club took full advantage of Chelsea being one man down. Van Persie’s goal was one of sweet victory, and it shows that United are ready to play harder and truly want to return to the top and claim their title.
Chelsea are currently their top opponents, and a last-minute draw is a good first step.
Chelsea still remains undefeated with seven wins and two draws to their name, but the draw against United on Sunday felt like a loss. Chelsea were minutes away from another three points, but United swooped in and stole Chelsea’s win. This is good news for United, but terrible news for Chelsea moving forward. Chelsea have all the right in the world to be overconfident right now in the EPL, but they can’t let that confidence take the pressure off.
Losing Branislav Ivanovic may be to blame for allowing Sunday’s equalizer, but it is possible that the lead may have caused the players to take the set piece less seriously. If United continue playing as they did today, then they may be battling Chelsea for first place sooner than expected.
