One of the surprises of the summer transfer marker was the bringing in of striker Radamel Falcao by Manchester United on loan from AS Monaco.

Pundits and supporters were surprised by the bringing of the Colombian striker, especially with the well-publicized defensive and midfield woes that are currently plaguing the Red Devils, especially since Javier “Chicarito” Hernandez was loaned out to Real Madrid because of his frustration over lack of playing time. There has also been concern over how well Falcao recovered after the recent knee injury that he suffered in January.

This being said, the sheer talent and offensive prowess that Falcao brings to the table can’t be argued against. He scored 63 goals in 88 total appearances for Atletico Madrid and Monaco over the past four previous seasons, giving United dreams about the scores of goals that will be produced with the attacking play of Falcao lined up alongside the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie, Angel Di Maria and Juan Mata.

Unfortunately, it’s been a stint filled of sitting from the stands for Falcao so far this season for Manchester United. His fitness is still being hampered by the knee injury; additionally, having suffered a calf injury in his last appearance on Oct. 20 against West Bromwich Albion has resulted in Falcao only playing in five games for United, three of which were starts and only producing a single goal, a game-winning goal on Oct. 5 against Everton.

Falcao has already been ruled out for Saturday’s important match against Arsenal after missing both of Colombia’s games this past international break. As of right now, it’s really hard to say that it was worth the six million-pound transfer fee to bring Falcao in this season. There’s still plenty of time, however, for Falcao to set the score sheet ablaze whenever he gets back to full fitness.
