5 Key Matchups For Southampton vs. Manchester City

Week 13 in the Premier League will see second-place Southampton square off against third-place, and reigning EPL champions, Manchester City. Southampton were not expected to be anywhere near the position that they are and will enter the game with very little pressure on their shoulders. City, however, have had a stuttering start to their campaign, and it will be the defending champions who will have all the pressure heading into the game.

With David Silva out injured, much of the creative burden for Manchester City now falls to Samir Nasri. Nasri will predominantly be up against Nathaniel Clyne when City take on Southampton, and the right-back will need to continue his recent good form to keep the Frenchman quiet.

Gael Clichy has been unconvincing in his performances this season, and he will have his hands full against Southampton. Dusan Tadic has been a revelation for the Saints and, given Clichy's recent form, the Serbia international will undoubtedly be the biggest danger to City in the game.

Going off current form, there is only one winner from this matchup and that man plays for Southampton. But you can never write off a player of the quality of Yaya Toure, and Schneiderlin will need to be at his best to ensure it is he who has the biggest impact on the midfield and not City's Toure.

Graziano Pelle has not scored in his last four EPL games, and things are not about to get any easier going up against Vincent Kompany. Pelle will be hoping to break his run of goalless games, but in order for City to take the three points that they need, Kompany will have to do his best to ensure that does not happen.

How do you stop Sergio Aguero? The answer, really, is that you can't. Toby Alderweireld, though, will be doing his best to try and slow down the Argentine at St. Mary's, but the job is a big one. Aguero has been on fire this season, and if that form continues against Southampton, then City will be confident that they will take all three points from the game.
