Arsenal is in dire need of defensive players. Their team is worn down by injuries and fatigue, and it's only getting worse. Their depth is lacking and their place in the Premier League is suffering because of it. But have no fear -- Arsene Wenger is looking to keep his job and make a splash this January. Here are five players he should look at.

NIgel de Jong has been around for ages, which is a turn-off for many managers, but he is a proven deep-lying midfielder who can be very physical. If you need proof, look at why he got a yellow card against Spain in the 2010 World Cup final.

Subotic is a great centre-back, and much cheaper than his German counterpart, Mats Hummels. He would fill a void that is not being fully taken by Nacho Monreal, and Per Mertesacker is being worn down as the season goes on. Subotic could be a great replacement for both as Laurent Koscielny is healing from his injuries.

Cabaye was a star for Newcastle United before he was transferred back to his native country of France. He is struggling to get into the starting XI at PSG, and is looking to move away. This would be a great capture for Arsene Wenger because he can play defensively and deliver a great pass.

Krychowiak plays for Sevilla FC in La Liga and Poland internationally, so his experience with top-tier play has been present for his whole career. He is a big player who is very physical and smart, and is an accurate passer. Although relatively unknown on the transfer radar, he is a great player who'd be a great signing.

Schneiderlin is the main reason why Southampton have done so well while selling the majority of their good players. He keeps the back-line in check and has kept his defense to be rated No. 2 overall, second to that of Chelsea. Arsenal would have to prepare a monster bid for him, but it would pay off greatly if they did.
