It’s official: Xherdan Shaqiri has moved on from Bayern Munich to Inter Milan.

The Swiss international has been itching to move away from the Bundesliga champions for quite some time, seeing as though he is barely used by Pep Guardiola. The coach can’t take too much of the heat for not playing him though; Bayern Munich is just too talented in every position to possibly accommodate everybody.

Shaqiri is a very talented attacking midfielder — most of his skills were on display for Switzerland in the World Cup in Brazil — but the competition is too fierce for him to make his mark in the squad. With players like Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Mario Goetze and others, it’s easy to see why Guardiola couldn’t play him. While it would be in the best interests of the club to keep the young talent, it’s not fair to stifle his growth by sitting him on the bench. The “Alpine Messi” scored 11 goals in 52 league appearances, but he only started in half of them.

Shaqiri’s best attribute is his left foot. He can send rockets at the keeper from 40 yards out; if you want proof, watch his goal against England a few years ago. During that game the entire Swiss offense boiled down to Shaqiri firing shot after shot at goaltender Joe Hart, and about 70 minutes in one found the back of the net. Since then he’s gotten even better, scoring in major occasions such as the Champions League (when he was allowed to make an appearance) and the World Cup.

Since Serie A isn’t the strongest league in the world anymore, Shaqiri should make an immediate impact. His skills and scoring ability would work well in any league, and now that Inter Milan has captured both him and Lukas Podolski, they should expect to be an offensively strong squad in the second half of their season.
