Sunderland and Burnley find themselves tied on 20 points in the Premier League standings as the two relegation candidates prepare to play each other in Week 23. Sunderland have incredibly drew 11 of their 22 matches so far this season, although a draw will not be sufficient in this game. Both teams will have a keen eye on not only a win, but taking points off a direct rival, and here are five bold predictions ahead of the relegation clash.

Neither team is particularly reliable in defense, and that should show up when the two face-off at the Stadium of Light. Both have a goalscorer in attack also, with Danny Ings being the main threat for the Clarets, and Sunderland having recently-signed Jermain Defoe to lead their frontline. An entertaining first half will see the two teams head back to the locker room tied at 2-2.

A bit like an aging boxer loses some of his attributes, but his power always lasts; Jermain Defoe may well lose some of his physical attributes in the years to come, but his goalscoring prowess will always be potent. The striker made his debut in the Black Cats last game against Tottenham, and after getting 75 minutes of play in the bank in that game, Defoe will notch his first goal in his second appearance against Burnley.

3. Outstanding Display From Danny Ings

Danny Ings is doing all he can to provide the necessary goals for Burnley to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season. The striker has scored three goals in his last three EPL games, and another impressive display from Ings will be on show in this game against a disfunctional Sunderland backline.

Burnley have looked a little tired towards the end of games recently, which is likely due to the fact that Sean Dyche picks virtually the same starting XI for every game. And having just played the busy Christmas period, fatigue may be playing a factor for the Clarets in the short term. The Sunderland game will be intense and fast paced and the home team will score at least one goal in added time.

Sunderland will last the course better than Burnley will in this game as the Clarets' lack of rotation catches up with them late on. The game is going to be particularly taxing for the players due to what's at stake and the atmosphere. The home team will draw energy from their crowd, however, and outlast their relegation rivals for an eventual 4-2 home win.
