Spanish giants Real Madrid have made yet another baffling signing during this winter transfer season. 21-year-old Lucas Silva has become the latest signing for the reigning UEFA Champions League winner.

This week, Real Madrid announced the purchase of Norwegian prodigy Martin Odegaard. Silva is the second youngster that Los Blancos have signed this week. The Brazilian will have to fight for a place on the bench with Asier Illarramendi, Sami Khedira, Odegaard, Casemiro and Luka Modric when the Croatian returns to action.

Competition to join the starting 11 is even more difficult as players like Isco, Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez seems to have a lock on their respective positions in the Real Madrid midfield.

The Cruzeiro youth product will have a tough time finding playing time for the Galacticos, struggling to even find a bit role in the cup team. For a young player like Silva, playing time and game experience at the highest level are necessary if he is to develop into a premier player.

Silva signed a five-and-a-half year contract with Real Madrid, who purchased the Brazilian central midfielder from Cruzeiro for the sum of $15 million. Both Odegaard and Silva have chosen a tough club to develop at, and they must take every minute they get to prove their worth at the Santiago Bernabeu.
