Things are a bit rocky for Manchester City in the Premier League right now, but at least the team have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League. Despite that, City still have one final fixture to fulfil against Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday and the visit of the Germans is set to be a torrid one for the EPL club.

Currently, Manuel Pellegrini is dealing with a raft of injury problems, which are not helping his stuttering team at present. Not only have City been missing key men recently, like Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, David Silva and Vincent Kompany, but the players who are playing are going through a rough spell of form.

City have already played Gladbach once this season and won the game 2-1 at Borussia-Park, but that was back in September and the Germans are a completely different proposition now. Gladbach began the season with five straight defeats and manager Lucien Favre subsequently left the club at that stage.

Soon after, City rolled into town and stole a crucial win, but Gladbach then won eight games and drew two in the following Bundesliga games after new manager Andre Schubert took charge of the team. Schubert is still unbeaten in the Bundesliga since joining the club that now occupies third place in the domestic standings.

The form of Gladbach couldn’t be much more of a contrast to the form of City for two teams in the Champions League. Gladbach are on a roll and City are bobbling along rather than smoothly rolling. The bumps in the road are not about to end, however, with the game against Gladbach about to be another night to forget for Pellegrini’s men.

City will try to be offensive as always, but the travelling Germans are going to provide a significant examination of a home defense which has toiled in recent times in the EPL. The team clearly suffers without Kompany and the Belgian is not scheduled to be back for a few games yet at least.

Red-hot Gladbach are unable to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition, but there is still a place in the Europa League up for grabs if the away team can get a result and hold off Sevilla in Group D. Luckily for City, they’ve already qualified so a loss won’t mean anything in that sense.

It will mean something for the confidence of the team, though, after recent results. City need some wins now to regain confidence and momentum, but it’s not about to happen on Gladbach’s watch in the final round of games in the Champions League group stage.
