5 Things We Learned From Premier League Week 23

The top four teams in the Premier League have put a little breathing room between the rest of the field after matchday 23. Also, goal scoring stayed at a high level to continue a trend from the last couple weeks, but five teams failed to score a goal.

The teams will get a little longer break with midweek games scheduled for February 2. Before that, here is a look back at some of the key lessons from week 23.

Each of the last four road games have been losses by one goal for Newcastle. Watford secured the latest one-goal victory over Newcastle simply by converting their chances. Newcastle were better in many parts of the park, but failed to get a result and still sit in the relegation zone.

Ayew scored the winning goal this weekend against Everton as the Swans managed to kill off the game in the second half despite having very little of the ball. He now has eight goals this season. In seven of the matches that Ayew has scored, Swansea have earned points. The big win moved Swansea four points clear of the relegation zone.
