Seattle Sounders Fans Should Be Patient After Rough Start To 2016

By Taylor Sturm

Young was not a word anyone would have used to describe the Seattle Sounders last season. This season, youth is all over the field for the Sounders. Not coincidentally, they have also begun this season with three straight losses.

But do not worry, Seattle fans, things will get better. Youth takes time to gel, especially with the loss of heavily experienced veterans replaced by rookies, like Obafemi Martins with Jordan Morris

The loss of Martins was absolutely massive for Seattle. His ability to create something out of nothing and his experience from years and years of playing all over the world were invaluable. Morris is a good player; Nelson Valdez is a good player. However, there will be a learning curve as these young players attempt to work on their game and get better acclimated to MLS. Replacing Martins will not happen overnight, and it could be a few more weeks before this team really starts to get the goals flowing.

The beauty of MLS is that the playoffs allow for a team to struggle early, catch fire late and still make the postseason. Look at the eventual MLS Cup winners, the Portland Timbers. They only took three points from their opening four matches in 2015 – two of which were at home. But they got it together late, made the playoffs, played well and won it all.

Seattle might be down, but they are not out. The Sounders are still one of the most dangerous teams in MLS, and it is just a matter of time before they catch fire.
