Rasmus traded to the Blue Jays for…still waiting for the punch line!

St. Louis Cardinals 24 year old Centerfielder Colby Rasmus has been traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for…well, like the title says – I’m still waiting for the punch line or trying to wake up from a bad dream.  Alright Cardinals fans….does this not prove my theory that GM John Mozeliak is a puppet and the stubborn one, Redbirds Manager Tony Larussa is the real GM.  I have been a Cardinals fan my entire 39 years of life…and this is the 1st time I have thought about not rooting for them anymore.  I was a Dallas Cowboys fan for my entire life as well (and because of rooting for the Boys – I think my Dad will pass on 10 years early), but Dallas became my most hated team in the NFL, possibly sports, when Dallas signed the most ME ME ME guy in all of sports history, Terrell Owens.  And this has me feeling the same way.

The Cardinals trade a 24 year old superstar that is still 3 years from free agency for Edwin Jackson,  a 28 year old overpaid starting pitcher that his career high wins in a season is 14 in 2008 and in that year his ERA was 4.42.  AND – the guy is a free agent at the end of the season.  Oh wait, but we also get 2 relievers (one is 37 years old) and Corey Patterson.  No Cards fans…I’m not kidding – that is really the deal.

Larussa, you have 2 jobs…to build relationships with the players in that locker room and MAKE THEM WORK – somehow, someway!  The other is to continue bringing in Trever Miller (part of this trade, but rumor has him going to the Chicago White Sox) or whatever 35+ year old lefthanded reliever that is sitting down in the pen and go bring him into the game so the Cardinals can either give up the lead or get even further behind.  That’s all you need to do….NOTHING else.  Well, at least you do a good job with the one job…relationship building not so much.  This trade is going to turn around and bite the organization and possibly Moz right in the booty!  These are the kinds of trades that get you fired.

I am going to say this again Cardinals fans…if Larussa continues to be the manager for this organization into 2012 & 2013…he is going to ruin some more highly touted prospects we have coming up through the system.  Shelby Miller & Carlos Martinez are destined to be STARS…but as long as Larussa is at the helm – their careers could be in jeopardy.  Funny thing is Octavio Dotel fits in to exactly what Larussa wants.  A player that is 35+ years of age, a declining career and struggles in the bullpen.  I’m telling you – if Larussa could have 25 of those guys – even though they are relievers – Tony thinks he could win with them.  Larussa – you have become an absolute embarrassment for a storied franchise with possibly the biggest ego on the planet.  Great job setting this franchise back 5-10 years.   But hey, at least Edwin Jackson may help the Cardinals only miss winning a less than mediocre division by 2 or 3 games….and IF the Redbirds are lucky enough to get into the playoffs…I’m really feeling good about that Cole Hamels vs. Edwin Jackson matchup in Game 3 of the NLDS!  Thanks a lot Tony for making me despise an organization that I grew up adoring while playing wiffle ball in the backyard in St. Louis while listening to Jack Buck and Mike Shannon on KMOX!

So what do you think Cardinals fans – let us know your thoughts in the comment section of this post!

You need new material, lol. Every article I have read in the last 20 minutes is about how much you hate TLR. Point taken, but there has got to be something else to write about. The Cubs have a high payroll and don’t have as good a winning percentage as the Cardinals in that same span. It is easy to focus on the negative, but let’s focus on the positive. The Cardinals are in first place in a suspect division. The Cardinals were suspect when they won their last World Series in 06. That team was lead by Suppan and Weaver in the rotation, and Pujols ans Rolen as the main hitters. They have the best lineup in the National League, and the a much improved pitching staff. A lot of players that aren’t good might find it hard to play for TLR. A lot of players that are good, sign, and play, for TLR long term.

Hey listen here Mr. Greenhill…LOL….It is not just me – it is all “major” media writing about how bad this deal was and Tony is the one to blame…but I would like to say I was on this bashing TLR bandwagon first…it’s just surprising to me that it took all of them to take this long to get on board and figure that out. Unfortunately, that is/was the story and unfortunately we have to move on. Unfortunately x2 – I can’t write about the Crds getting Heath Bell because I am hearing a deal between the Padres and the Rangers is about to go down for Bell!
