Long Time Ram, Torry Holt (knee) to IR
England Patriots’ veteran wide receiver Torry Holt was placed on injured reserve Sunday, the team announced. Holt’s season with the Pats, and possibly his NFL career, ended with this announcement.
Holt will undergo surgery on the knee later this week. The 34-year-old wide out was a St. Louis Ram for 10 seasons. He was drafted 6th overall out of North Carolina State in 1999 by St. Louis.
As a rookie, Holt had 52 receptions for 788 yards to go along with 6 touchdowns. This was a solid contribution to a stellar offense that ranked 1st in total yards and total points scored, a.k.a. “The Greatest Show of Turf.”
Holt (left) caught a nine yard touchdown pass from Kurt Warner to help the Rams win Super Bowl XXXIV. After helping the Rams win the Super Bowl in his rookie campaign, Holt’s career soared to new heights in St. Louis, quickly becoming known as a premiere wide receiver in the NFL. For the next five seasons (2000-2005) Holt never caught less than 1,300 receiving yards.
Holt and the Rams would reach the Super Bowl again in 2002. They would lose, however, to his current team New England by a field goal as time expired.
His best regular season statistically came the following year in 2003, compiling 1,696 yards with 12 touchdowns.
St. Louis and the wide receiver parted ways in 2009 when Holt went to Jacksonville. He signed a one year contract with the Patriots in April, but wasn’t a lock to make the squad after Wes Welker’s return.
Holt currently ranks 10th in NFL history with 13,382 receiving yards and 11th in receptions with 920. He will undoubtedly retire a St. Louis Rams, and makes a great case for the Hall of Fame.

The Rams are heading in the right direction with Bradford and are defence, we are just lack experience from are wide recievers, yes I know we are hurting with are starters out but even then they are still young and still yet to prove them selfs when they return for next sesason. We really have know one on are roster to coach them like Bruce did with Holt. So why not bring Holt back if his surgery goes well even if its for one year, if thats what he wants. It would be nice to see Holt retire as a Ram aswell as him passing on what he knows to are young recievers, we did it for Bruce why not for Holt.
