A day after their nail-biting preseason victory over the Cleveland Browns (Rams 19 – Browns 17), the St. Louis Rams signed local favorite, WR Danario Alexander from the University of Missouri. Wide receiver Brooks Foster was released.

As reported by Eric Schmidt for Red Zone Talk on RantSports.com, the deal was completed Sunday afternoon.

Alexander tweeted he will wear number “A-T-4″ for St. Louis.

Alexander had a breakout 2009 season his senior year as a Tiger racking up 113 receptions, 1,781 yards, and 14 touchdowns.

The wide receiver fell off NFL teams draft boards because of knee surgery to clean up cartilage damage in February.  The Rams apparently liked what they saw when Alexander took a physical on August 2nd.

If healthy, 6-foot-5 Alexander will provide a different type of target to throw to, than other wide outs in the Rams WR core.

Of the top four WR’s on the Rams’ depth chart, only one is over six-foot and that’s Laurent Robinson at six-foot-2.

There’s no word yet if the new WR will get any playing time in this Thursday’s game vs. the New England Patriots, or the status of his overall health in general.

We do know he passed his physical and for the Rams’ sake, let’s hope Danario Alexander has a fast road to recovery and quickly moves up the depth chart.

It could be a lethal Big 12 combo for years to come if both Sam Bradford and Danario Alexander stay healthy and meet their respective expectations.  Expectations which, at least in Rams’ country, are both realistic and certainly high.
