Ever since the intense Monday night game between the New York Giants and St. Louis Rams, the NFL has made it clear to all 32 teams there will be consequences for player faking injuries to gain extra time after Deon Grant and Jacquian Williams tried to pull it off in the first quarter. While this story seems to get more interesting every day, one former member of the Giants is calling out his former team and defensive coordinator–claiming players are coached to do this during games.

Michael David Smith discussed on Thursday how Rams linebacker Bryan Kehl discussed in an interview how Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell coaches his players to fake injuries during games to gain free timeouts. Kehl was drafted by the Giants in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft and was briefly coached by Fewell when he arrived in New York before the linebacker was placed on waivers after one game into the 2010 season–so it’s safe to say he’s a little familiar with how his former defensive coordinator coaches.

Whether or not Kehl is just saying these comments out of bitterness from Monday’s loss–it wouldn’t be a surprise if the league looks further into this incident. Considering Grant and Williams dropped to the ground with injuries around the same time only to have Williams get up a few seconds later and walk away like nothing happened–which seems a bit suspicious about whether Kehl may actually be right.
